The Quokka as Your Spirit Animal

Is everyone smiling? Perfect!! What better way to start a day than with one of the cutest animals I think I have ever seen?!  I was introduced to the Quokka today with a children's book that was returned to me at the library. As soon as I saw the picture, I was smiling, and I dove into the book to learn more about where I could find this animal!

For those of you who live with me here in the United States, it will likely be some time before we get to see one, as they are native to Australia. I know I have a few of you with me on Moonsong Daily Magick from Australia! If you have any pictures, I would love to see them!! Remember, never get too close to the animals!

I love the picture I chose for the head of the article—it's just so cute! However,  I wanted to get another picture for you that showed them a bit better. I have never seen one in person, but I would love to! I also wouldn't mind spending time on whatever beach they are on in this picture!

According to Wikipedia, they are about 5 - 12 pounds in size or about the size of a cat. :)  You can tell by how they are sitting, a bit like a kangaroo, that they are from the macropod family.  They have pouches like the Kangaroo. The females can give birth to a baby called a joey about every six months.  The baby will live in the pouch for about six months.  Unlike a kangaroo, they can climb a bit.  Not the big trees, but they can go up some of the smaller ones.

Unfortunately, their population has been declining, so they are considered threatened. They are herbivores and depend upon hiding for survival. Climate change has been having a tough impact on their population, with damage from wildfires and increasing heat making it harder for them to find places to eat and to hide.

Let's look at how they can help you as a spirit animal.  They are known for looking like they have a smile, and that has an impact on their energy.  Just as when someone smiles at you it can make you smile and bring you positive energy, the Quokka can do the same.  They are curious animals and tend to bounce around in their movement, so you will find that when you work with them as a spirit animal, they can boost your energy and spirit. You will find that they may make you notice things more, especially things that make you want to explore more.  They work hard to adapt to whatever situations life brings and can help you with this as well.  Many of you will find them a great spirit animal to work with!

I hope that you have an amazingly magickal day!

Much Love and Many Blessings,

Jasmeine Moonsong
