Happy Valentine's Day! You Are Loved!

As a child Valentine's Day was one of my favorite holidays. We spent time at school making special mailboxes out of brown paper lunch bags. Oh how I would pour my heart into that lunch bag. I loved art. Art that involved love always seemed even more special. We would then spend time making Valentine's for our friends. So many special hearts cut out of construction paper with special messages that were just for me.

This month is love your library month and we've been busy making valentines for coworkers, patrons and with the children for their families. It's been so much fun! I even made a couple of special Valentine's this year for Earl! Shhhhh... don't tell him. :P

My point in all this is that today is a day to celebrate love in all of its many forms. I think today most people think of Cupid and the modern representation of Valentine's Day, fancy commercial cards, big boxes of chocolate...not that I don't love chocolate. Today would be a wonderful day to explore the many Gods associated with love.

Did you know that in ancient Greek Religion there are seven different gods associated with love known as the Erotes? Some of them may be familiar to you. Eros is the God that many of you have likely heard of as his Roman counterpart is cupid. He is the God of love and fertility. Anteros is the Greek God of Love returned. Pothos is the God of sexual longing or desire. There are so many different Gods that you can work with that involve love. Choose one to work with today that represents the type of love or the loving energy that you wish to see in your life. Choose to celebrate today as a day of love and do something to bring more loving energy into your life.

I think sometimes we just need to know that we are loved. Maybe it's a love in our life who brings us that love, family member, fur baby, friend or maybe we bring that energy to ourselves as self-love is so important. Today take a moment to remind yourself that you are loved. Do something special for yourself. Make a special dinner, take a long walk, spend some time creating something that moves your heart and soul. Do something today to remind yourself of the love in your life that surrounds you and how important it is.

Most of all though as you go through today remember that you are loved and you always will be.

Make Friday the 13th Your Lucky Day!

How many of you get nervous when it’s Friday the 13th? Friday the 13th always is a lucky day for me. Let me tell you why and how you can make it the same for you.

Many of you are probably familiar with the horror movie Friday the 13th. I must confess, I’ve not watched that one, and don’t see myself watching it anytime soon. For those of you who may not be, it’s a horror film that came out in America around 1980. I love scary movies, the ones about hauntings, paranormal activities etc, but tend to shy away from gory movies. It’s about a group of camp counselors that are trying to re-open a Summer Camp that was closed because years before a child had drowned there. Of course scary movies need to have someone chasing you right? These counselors are stalked and ultimately murdered by that man in the hockey mask that all of you will likely recognize as that mask is absolutely everywhere at Halloween.

I found an absolutely fantastic article on History from several years ago called Friday the 13th. They did an amazing job going through the history and superstitions of this date and why the number 13 and Friday are considered unlucky. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I’ll give you a moment to go check it out.

Ready? Ok so if you weren’t nervous about this date before maybe you are now? I’m just playing.

Let’s break this down a bit using Numerology. Does anyone know what the 13th card of tarot is?

That’s right! The Death Card. Perfect. While seen as a ominous card by many, this card is really representative of much needed change. So while in the beginning when I was just learning to read tarot I use to cringe when it came up, I now have developed a relationship with this card knowing that it’s going to bring about some much needed change for whomever I am reading for. In numerology the number 13 stands for change and transformation. Most people are afraid of change. However, often, change can bring about good things as well. In order to move forward, we must have change right?

So along with all the hype, negative associations and such about Friday the 13th, I have one basic theory.

If you believe this day is unlucky it will be.

It makes sense right? How many of you know about the Law of Attraction? The energy you put out there is the energy that you are going to attract. If you believe you are going to have the most unlucky day tomorrow I’ll give you one guess what’s going to happen. Have you ever started out a day rough and then said that the rest of your day would be awful and it was? Next time you’re having a rough day, take a deep breath and reset your day. Tell yourself that was the challenge for the day and now that you’ve successfully completed it the rest of the day will be easy. It’s kinda crazy how well this works.

So let’s try it out. Today I want you to tell yourself that Friday the 13th is a lucky day for you. This is something I’ve been doing for years, I honestly think I started it in middle school to be different. Power of intention. You have the power to make this a lucky day for yourself. Try it out You may never see Friday the 13th the same again.

My Past Life Regression

Well over 20 years ago now I had a Past Life Regression done and it's one of those things I will always remember. It was in the first couple of years that I had decided to start acknowledging my gifts and learning all I could about them. I was continually being told that I was an old soul and that I was carrying some tough past life karmic energy so I decided to go digging into it. I’m lucky enough to live in a state that doesn’t have a shortage of New Age shops. If you know where to look you can find them. There was a shop… I think it was a couple of hours or so from me that did Past Life Regressions, so as a treat I took myself on a day trip to go get it done. I was incredibly nervous as I really had no idea what I was in for. I was so excited though.

When I got there I checked in and spent some time browsing around the shop trying to calm my nerves. I remember that once I got there I felt calm pretty quickly. Perhaps all those stones in the shop and the amazing smell. A lady came to get me and led me up a set of stairs into what I think I remember as being the attic of the shop. It was a single room, a bit darker and there wasn’t a lot up there. There was a sitting area with a couch and some comfy chairs. I sat down talking to her for a few minutes. I think she knew I was nervous. She picked up quickly that I was a psychic and that I had the gift of sight. I was floored. I’ve had people know that before but she knew so fast. She told me that it would make the experience a bit easier for me.

She asked me to get comfy and lay down on the couch. From there we did some meditation exercises that I don’t specifically remember to help me to relax. She then brought me on what I would essentially call a guided meditation. She asked me questions and basically did the past life regression myself. It was my first experience with this and I remember it being quite vivid. I was completely relaxed. I would describe it as being similar to lucid dreaming. I was deeply relaxed but was very aware of her and everything going on. I don’t remember everything from that day but I do remember a few key things. The first life that I saw was a challenging life. I was in a bad marriage with a man who definitely didn’t love me. I can still see the old house on the hill that I saw that day. He was wealthy. I was in the way I remember that. It’s funny how vivid some of the memories of the things I saw in that regression were. I was taken for a carriage ride down to a place that I loved and there was a small bridge with a brook. It wasn’t an elaborate bridge. I knew something wasn’t right. I saw his eyes as he strangled me with his hands and I remember being upset as I tried to fight and then finally gave into it knowing there was nothing I could do. The thing that I find most crazy about this experience is how so many pieces of it are still so vivid today!

One of the things that a lot of you asked me was if this was scary. It wasn’t at all. I would describe it like seeing a movie? It was intense… I could see it and sort of feel it.. but I was also very aware that I was on that couch and safe and I remember her telling me that and pulling me back a bit. What I loved about this though is it helped to explain why I can’t handle anything around my throat. If there is anything there like a scarf it has to be loose. I also have trouble with anxiety about dying early and not being able to breathe. Interesting right? Knowing that’s where it comes from, I found helpful.

We explored at least one more life on that day… I don’t remember a whole lot about it except that the place felt so familiar and comforting. It looks similar to the house in the picture above. My guess is that it’s somewhere in Europe. It’s a white house with a thatched roof near the edge of a cliff that overlooks the ocean. It’s a small cottage… one room. Nothing fancy. I was a healer in that life and I had a lot of people come to see me for help. The love of the ocean as well as being a healer are both soul level traits for me. Soul level traits are those traits that you carry to each lifetime with you.

So how do Past Life Regressions differ from readings? With a regression the reader will guide you. She had an easier time with mine as I can see really well. The purpose is to relax you though and to see if you can see things from a past life. When I do Past Life Readings for you, I can see the life that you lived. It’s like watching a movie. That’s the best way I can think of to describe it. It’s something that I really love doing. I find them so interesting. I hope that helps!

Herbs for Love and Romance

This time of year love becomes quite the popular topic. If you are looking for a few herbs to perhaps spice things up a bit regarding the love in your life read on. Let's go through some spices that you may enjoy.

Lavender is naturally calming and soothing. Did you know that the scent of lavender has been used to attract men since ancient times? It was put under the mattress to help increase energy of passion and love. Lavender is associated with the heart chakra, and will help open your energy to love.

Cinnamon is another one of my favorites. It is said that it excites men. Cinnamon is very helpful in lifting your spirits and promoting an overwhelming sense of positive emotion and love. Try a cup of cinnamon and honey tea.

Ginger is a hot herb all on it's own. This herb will warm your body up. It can be used to help get your partner "in the mood". Ginger makes a wonderful salad dressing. For those of you who have sensitive stomachs ginger can go a long way towards helping sooth that as well.

Did you know that Rosemary is said to be an aphrodisiac? In ancient times, women would carry rosemary in their bridal bouquets as it is know to assist with love and faithfulness.

Parsley is another wonderful herb to have about on valentine's day. It is said that it can help to increase a woman's desire.

My personal favorite, chocolate. Chocolate boosts serotonin and endorphin levels, relieving pain and boosting your mood. It can help increase your levels of desire. The cacao seeds that chocolate is made from are classified as an herb. <3

Strawberries just go so well with chocolate. When mentioning chocolate my mind immediately goes to chocolate covered strawberries. Did you know that strawberries are actually an herb? The “perfect little red heart” is actually a part of the Rose family. In ancient Rome, strawberries symbolized the goddess Venus. Strawberries hold the energy of love, and when combined with chocolate, increase the energy of the person consuming them! So indulge those cravings a bit.

So let's refresh. Make plans for that perfect romantic evening tonight. Use some lavender oil in a diffuser. Place cups of cinnamon and honey tea on the table. Follow it up with a ginger salad. For dinner, let's roast up a rosemary chicken with some red parsley and garlic potatoes. For the perfect touch, chocolate covered strawberries for dessert.

Magickal Places At Home

I sat here tonight envisioning a place I would like to be as an intuitive exercies and this is what I came up with! (Well, it’s as close as I could find, but it works!) Would any of you like to be there right now? Next question, why can't you be? Ok, I realize most of us haven’t got a bed like this swinging in our backyard, but for some of us with the yard space, it could be. I see you shaking your head at me! Stay with me for a moment.....

Ok, let's conduct an experiment. I want you to sit there and think of the most magickal place you can think of. Relax and let your mind wander a bit. Now, honestly, for how many of you was it in your own home or yard? For a few of you, it may have been. If you're like me, I was picturing a location in the woods... a warm one. When I found the picture to help me with my visualization, it hit me... so many times I think about magickal places being somewhere other than where I am. So then the question is, could I make a place like this in my yard? Maybe! I have a beautiful willow tree. I think it would have to be a different type of bed... a hammock would be closer to realistic for something out there, but it would need to be comfy and able to survive the elements. I could create that calming magickal place that I’m picturing. There are ways to bring it into reality, even if it will look a bit different.

Think of a magickal place. Take your time with it. Then I want you to take that magickal place you pictured and see if there are components you can incorporate into your home. Most of us have our alters and ritual space, but how many of us have a magickal place within our home that we truly feel like we are somewhere else in? For those of you with yards, maybe you can set up one corner of your yard as your own magickal place. Somewhere very comfy to hang out, waterfalls, lights, etc. If you are in an apartment or somewhere this isn't possible, what about a corner of a room? You'd be amazed at what you can do with comfy blankets and things like salt lamps and table fountains. Write out exactly what you would want. Make a sort of sketch. Don't worry about prices to start with. When you have what you want, go through and take it piece by piece. There may be things you can do yourself to reduce costs. You may find you really wouldn't need much money at all. You may be able to do variations on it. Many of you have seen photos of my deck. That’s what I have been working on over the last several years. It has comfy chairs, a fireplace, and a garden, and I love it. If you spend time there, you will start noticing the crystals and other trinkets tucked away around you. Where's your place going to be?

The Emotional Playground for Empaths

Many of you know that one of my huge passions in life is working with empaths. I am blessed to work with so many of you and I couldn’t imagine my life without all of you. I also know that I have a lot of you that are new, so I wanted to make sure that you had the resources that you need.

In the past I have gone into grounding and shielding, two skills that are critical for empaths. The next step is learning to recognize your own emotions. I know, it sounds like the most simple thing in the world, but you would be amazed how many emotions you can carry as an empath that aren’t even yours. It really is like an emotional playground out there. If you’re not careful you can wind up with a myriad of emotions that have nothing to do with you.

So let’s start sorting it out. What’s mine? What’s yours? When you feel intense emotions, we need to start sorting them out. If you woke up in a good mood, drove to work, and when you got out of your car in the parking lot you felt angry, is it you? Or could it be you drove past thirty cars on the way there, with people stuck at lights, and late to work and were experiencing mild cases of road rage. Take a deep breath. Think about why it is you feel angry right at that moment. If you cannot come up with a reason, chances are, it’s not yours. So give it back! Release the negative emotion back into the universe. Take a huge deep breath and say, “This is not my emotion, I release it.” Take another one and say, “I am happy and calm.” It can also be helpful to have a one-word chant. I use the word “calm.” I will repeat it quietly to myself until I feel back to normal. If you have time to ground, by all means, ground. That is the best method to release the energy that you have picked up. However, many times, just realizing that it’s not yours, and allowing it to go away will do the trick.

Once you start getting in tune with your own emotions, you will be surprised at how many things can and will affect you if you let them. Just being aware of this can begin to make a huge difference in your like immediately. Use the simple breathing exercise above as often as you need to. With time, regular grounding, shielding and just plain old being aware your life will start to change for the better immediately.

Welcome February!

Can you believe it's February? I feel like we just celebrated the New Year and here we are! January had it's challenges in that many of us were still finishing up some things and letting go of things to make room for new beginnings that are coming your way this month with Eclipse Season and the beginning of the Year of the Fire Horse. I'm pretty excited about it! I feel like some great things are coming our way as soon as we finish up some of these housekeeping tasks that many of us are working on.

I have a lot of magickal energy this year around us and I'm loving it. If you practice witchcraft it's a great year to empower yourself by working with energy and to use it to try to help with the things that you want to see in your life and the world around you. Sometimes it's the little things that everyone does that can go such a long time. I chose the Unicorn for the photo for February as I loved Unicorns when I was little. They represented magick, mystery and faith in the unknown. These are all things that I find so important today and I encourage you all to embrace whatever helps to bring that energy into your life. Look for ways to bring a bit of extra magick to everything that you are doing each day!

February is a month of love. For those of you in relationships, this is a great time to celebrate it. I think it’s important to know, though, that I definitely don’t just see this as a month for couples. Share the love with friends and family and don’t forget those fur babies! It’s also an important month to bring that love around yourself as well. Be sure that you are doing things to help bring some extra love into your life. Light a red or pink candle and send some beautiful energy of love out into the world. A white candle and some quartz with it will help to extend that energy of love and add some calming energy of peace as well.

Winter is here in New England! While we celebrated Imbolc yesterday which is the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox we still have a lot of snow and it's so cold. It's really beautiful though. We took a drive today and the skies were so blue. It really made it look like a magickal winter wonderland. That being said I know Spring is on the way and you will start to feel it move in this month, especially when we celebrate our New Moon this month on the 17th and the beginning of Eclipse Season with the Solar Eclipse. It's a great time to start planting seeds for what you want to see in your future.

We just celebrated our Full Moon and we won't have another one until March. I love that it was in Leo and it really kicked off some great energy for us this month. It has brought energy of courage and confidence to help you to finish up these endings and to get ready for the fire energy and energy of the heart coming your way this month. Let's take a look at what's coming our way!

I pulled the Five of Pentacles for the month. As you navigate the shifting energy around you and the beginning of Eclipse Season this month it's important to try to see things from different perspectives. Listen to advice from others but remember you are the only one walking your path and the person that knows you the best. It's always a good idea to gather as much information as you can and then make your own decision. There's always different ways of doing things. If you find that you are stuck, don't settle for that. Look for a different way to do things. Remember that your path is yours. If you decide that you are stuck you will be. Even if you can't figure out how to change something or to get out of a situation if you start looking at it and trying to see things from different perspectives it will often help you to find a new way to do things. Keep an eye on shifting energy as well. You may find that 24 hours can make a big difference in things happening in your life.
